Connection Service

The Connection Service is a small Windows app that runs on your computer. A browser cannot open a serial port or a network connection to a PLC device, so FORGE asks the Connection Service to do it and passes the values to your tags.

  1. Sign in and open your account. The Connection Service panel lists the Windows x64 and Windows ARM64 installers. The download is part of the Pro plan.
  2. Click Download for your computer and run the installer.
  3. The Connection Service starts by itself and keeps running in the background. It has no window: FORGE is where you manage it.
  4. If it is not running, start it from the Windows Start menu.

Pair it with FORGE

  1. Open FORGE. The status bar shows the Connection Service, such as Connection Service ready or Pairing required.
  2. Add a Link and open its Connection tab.
  3. Click Request pairing. Pairing takes one click: there is no code to type and nothing to approve on the computer.
  4. Click Connect. The Link's status shows when values arrive.

Good to know

  • It listens only on this computer. Other computers on the network cannot reach it.
  • Passwords and tokens for brokers, servers and databases stay in the Connection Service. They are never saved in the project file.
  • Paired computers and live sessions are listed in its panel. Disconnect ends a session and keeps the pairing; Remove ends the pairing.
  • Stopping the Connection Service stops every Link on this computer that uses it.
  • Uninstalling it from Windows removes its pairings and settings. Saved Links in your projects are kept.
